Recruitment Drive held on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 at Rite Way, Pasea Estate's Parking Lot.

Coordinator, Stacie Stoutt-James is making a plea to interested persons in our community both men and women who are willing to volunteer their time, compansion and guidance and are dedicated and willing to accept a child for who they are to volunteer. A second drive is scheduled for Saturday, January 30th, in the front of Bolo's Department Store.

34 New Mentors Inducted in Big Brothers/Big Sisters Programme

Thirty-four men and women were recently inducted in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentorship Programme, under the Social Development Department, after completing the required training.

Coordinator of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentorship Programme Mrs. Stacie Stoutt-James told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the compulsory training was the closing part of the application process for new mentors. "After that they signed a contract that is binding," she said. - Thirty-four men and women were recently inducted in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentorship Programme, under the Social Development Department, after completing the required training.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Programme to Unveil Revamped Website

The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentorship Programme is on the verge of unveiling a revamped website, which the Ministry of Health and Social Development hopes will garner additional public support for the programme.

Head of the Social Development Department´s Family and Children Services Division Mrs. Stacie Stoutt-James told the Department of Information and Public Relations she is "excitedly proud" about the pending re-launch of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentorship website. She also said that the time of the unveiling will soon be announced.

We are faced with a crisis –and you can help. Too many of our young men throughout our territory are at risk of dropping out or being expelled from school, getting involved in drugs—loosing there way. Having a Big Brother who can guide and help them make positive choices will change their lives and make our community stronger. One to one mentoring reduces violence and truancy, and improves young males relationships with their peers and families.

The Social Development Department is appealing for volunteers, in particular men, to be positive role models in the lives of young males as they mark this week as Mentorship Week.

Last weekend the Social Development Department hosted a refresher workshop for all Mentors of the Big Brother Big Sister Program at the Maria's By the Sea, reminding them of their role as a Mentor. The workshop was also an opportunity to train new Mentors and an orientation session for the Parents and new little sisters and brothers.

The BVI Big Brother Big Sister Youth Mentorship Programme is now accepting applications for those interested in mentoring a child between the ages of 6-16 years of age.
